Songs for Healing

I got the idea of keeping a list of my favorite songs from the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Workbook. Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT, was developed by Marsha Lineham for people with Borderline Personality Disorder. A characteristic of BPD is excessive and often painful emotions. DBT can be helpful for any number of people who have excessive, extreme, or chronic problems with emotions. In the DBT Workbook, among other ideas, the authors recommend creating a list of activities to soothe yourself, when your emotions are too painful to cope with and gives many options for you to choose from.

Music has always been a great interest and hobby of mine. So making a list of my favorite songs was a logical choice for me to focus on, to calm me when caught up in excessive, painful, or suicidal feelings. The four lists below are based on one big list I made for myself, breaking it up into four lists of themes, to make it more accessible for other people. I created the Sage and Intrepid Youtube Channel where I put these playlists. Below are the playlists I made. Please add your favorite songs in a comment and I will include them on a sixth playlist called Reader’s Songs.

Thanks Reid for your recommendations. I included them in the fifth playlist.

  1. I remembered another one that always gives me a lift. The line about losing a home is especially poignant.

“So you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow,
with smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go,
turn to, put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain
and like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again!
    Rise again! Rise again!
Though your heart it be broken or life about to end.
No matter what you’ve lost – be it a home, a love, a friend –
like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again!

  2. Definitely imagine that which you stated. Your favorite reason appeared to be at the web the easiest factor to have in mind of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed even as other folks think about worries that they plainly don’t recognize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the entire thing with no need side-effects , other people could take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thanks

  3. Heya i am for the first time here. I came across this board and I find It truly useful &
it helped me out much. I hope to give something back and help others like
    you aided me.

Thanks. I believe what goes around comes around, and that this is true for the good stuff as well as the bad. Good luck in your endeavours.
